I’m all for gun control – by free citizens making their own choices. Private citizens have managed to control their own guns just fine, with both hands, pursuant to USC Title 10 subtitle A Part I Chapter B section 311(2). They use both hands and generally provide themselves better training for the defense of their own lives and property than the government ever could. Aside from the vast majority of Americans being part of, near, around, related to, and in many cases protected first by the militia, this is why the right to bear arms shall not be infringed. Period.
The Second Amendment says:
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”
There’s also the Ninth Amendment, which bars government from construing its Constitutional powers to disparage individuals or states from excising any of their rights. It reads:
“The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people”
The Tenth Amendment then shackles the federal government from using any power not specifically delegated to it by the remainder of the document. It reads:
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people”
So even if you asked your government to limit guns, it would not be enabled to do so. Any official or civil servant attempting to so do becomes guilty of violating their oath to uphold and defend the US Constitution.
Police rarely stop bank robberies or even murders committed by those crossing our borders. This is your country. If you don’t defend it, no one will. This is why people buy guns in a republic. We are a republic, not a “democracy” where popular consensus can deny anyone some or all of their rights. A democracy is unsustainable, as so many rights are eroded that it must be secured through a dictatorship upon reaching a critical mass. According to Jefferson, a democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for dinner. It sounds like the Million Mom March.
Government cannot vote away rights, which are conferred upon oneself with entry into this world. Likewise, government cannot bar you from using your rights to fulfill your responsibilities. By the way, self defense is your responsibility.
My favorite gun free zones included Columbine and Virginia Tech, and not surprisingly, all shooters took psychotropic drugs that induce violence and suicidal tendencies. Criminals clearly had no issue bringing guns into these “gun free” zones. If the government told you to put yourself at great personal risk in such a way to give criminals the sole monopoly of force, would you?
As mayor of San Francisco, Diane Feinstein granted only one permit – hers. Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy and many other anti gun advocates pack heat themselves. The UN, an organization mostly comprised of backward totalitarian governments without even the ability to imagine half the freedoms we have, wants your guns. Mao, Stalin, Hitler and many others who headed the most oppressive nations in history wanted you disarmed to the greatest extent possible. Once a tyrant or authoritarian state has your guns, it will not be enough. They will then crack down on your freedom of speech and habeas corpus, then that will not be enough. When you forfeit any margin or piece of any of your rights, don’t expect to get them back. Any state will always, by its fundamental nature, conspire to own you.
Those who would exchange liberty for security will receive neither. It’s happening all around them as you read this. These people are fools. If you, the person reading this, shares this belief, you are a fool.
The UK disarmed its citizens. Now it has a knife problem. Unless you’d like to stop them from cooking, that’s pretty much the extent of what can be done. Oddly enough, life still has dangers.
While some criticize books like More Guns, Less Crime, the author in this case gives you the info to replicate his research. Most gun accidents are law enforcement.
We also live in a world with greater dangers than gun accidents, violence, or the dreaded terrorism. These include lack of health insurance, heart disease, toppling vending machines, tornadoes, hurricanes, asthma, drowning, lighting, cancer, AIDS, car accidents, stroke, infant mortality, plane crashes, diabetes, high blood pressure, malnutrition and domestic violence.
How’s government done with those? They made off with a lot of your money, haven’t they? Let’s face it. Living is dangerous and it involves the use of common sense to deal with risks.
As a wise man once said, the price of freedom is eternal vigilance. Anti gun people, or even pro gun people who want regulation do not want to be free. That’s what you ask for when you ask government to get involved.
First, you need to register your gun. Then you can’t get guns with some features. Next, certain classes of guns are outlawed. After that, you can’t buy pistols. Before you know it, you need to be a police officer to buy a gun. Then, all guns are confiscated.
